Day 64 12/29/2021
Odometer 31,050—— 0 Miles (8350 Miles Total)
Panama City, Panama
Today was a day to relax. I got up around 8am. I went out for breakfast and did some work on the computer. I worked on the blog for a bit at the cafe, posted in the forums about my bike issues, researched things to do in Colombia, took care of some bills and got new credit cards since mine had fraud charges on them. I spent maybe 2,5 hours at the cafe which was a lot for me but it has AC so I enjoyed it.
After breakfast I went back to the hotel to relax and watch some Netflix. I went out after and bought some more linen shirts to send back with my friend Nick I’ll see in Colombia since they are such a cheap price down here. I went out and dropped off some laundry to be done. I called an Uber to take me to the biggest mall in Central America to see if I could find anything I might need that I won’t be able to get in Colombia and after walking around for over an hour I found nothing. So many useless stores in the mall. I took an Uber back and picked up my laundry. Went out for a snack and ice cream. Watched some more Netflix. I got another Uber and got a ride down to the Crossfit gym. Never in my life have I gotten so many Ubers but they’re like $2.50 for a 20 minute ride. It’s insanely cheap.
I got to the 7pm class to find out it was a partner workout and no one else signed up for the class. Looks like I was gonna do it alone. Not bad. I decided to do the full partner workout and reps by myself. A bit brutal but I don’t see myself near a gym in the next 4 days so i’ll take it while I got it!
100 Burpee Box jump overs at 30″
100 Wall Balls at 20lbs
100 Sit ups Unbroken
2000 Meter row.
That was a good workout. I’m glad I did it alone since it would have been way too easy with 3 people and I would have been asking for more. After the gym I got an Uber back, showered up and decided to go out for dinner to a place everyones been telling me about since the minute I got here. There’s a restaurant called Fonda Que Hay two blocks from my Hostel and everyone says it’s the best food in town. They have been closed since a few staff members got COVID but they were supposed to open tonight. I walked over and it looked promising since there was a line of 15 people out front. I waited about an hour and got it. I got 3 orders of food and a mixed drink. I’m starting to learn not to trust what other people say about going to certain places for views or food.
What other people think is beautiful and delicious might be very different from what I think is lately. The amount of things I’ve seen, places I’ve been and food I’ve eaten is a bit different from everyone else. The food wasn’t good at all in my opinion and for $60 I was annoyed I spent that much for food that wasn’t even good. I had food in Mexico for $15 that should have cost $150 in NYC and it was delicious. Same with views. People tell me to go here and there and once I get there I can’t believe I took a few hours of a detour to look at this nonsense they think is wild and beautiful. I’m starting to take it all with a grain of salt and really filter out where I should go from now on.
Anyway after dinner I went straight back to the hostel to watch some more Netflix and relax till I passed out at midnight. I’m excited to fly out to Bogota tomorrow and get the next chapter of the trip started.
