DAY 41

Day 41  12/6/2021

Odometer     28,760 – 28,760—– 0  Miles  (6080 Miles Total)

Bacalar, Mexico

Well what I planned out for Bacalar was to spend maybe a few hours here as I was passing it on my way to Tulum. Here we are going on our fourth night here. This place is too lovely. We decided to book another night here. The girls are going to run off to Palenque tomorrow and Yannick is going to head back to Tulum since his trip is almost over in a few days and he’s heading back to Germany for work.

Yannick and Marianne got home at 4AM. These guys love getting home at exactly that time. She woke me up with the squeaky bathroom door a few times when she got home. I’ll get you back for that one girl. We all talked about going for a run in the morning but that was before these two decided to stay out till 4am. We booked a boat tour at 10am for a 2.5 hour tour of the lake. We got out of bed at about 8am. Well at least Caroline and I did. I walked out of the hotel with my running shoes on and made a right to go towards the lake. The sun was just up, a little bit of fog in the streets was just burning off, people were out starting their morning, the birds were chirping and it was pretty quiet. I took my phone out to take a picture to show everyone how peaceful it is here in the mornings and to see what I just explained. I ran along the edge of the lake and to my surprise my knee didn’t hurt at 2.25 miles like it usually does. I said I’ll go for 4 miles since I’d love to do 6 but I had a little alcohol the night before and I was dehydrated. The temps were already rising. My eyes were getting covered with sweat and it was burning. Thought about my trip on the run and how well everything is going. I’m so lucky. I remembered a few weeks ago how I was so frustrated with time and didn’t know how much time to spend in each place because I was in a rush. Here I am on my fourth day in Bacalar without a care about the time. I’m really starting to fall into place with what I said I would do, which is stay in a place until it feels right to leave. So with that being said I decided to make the decision to stay yet another night here. The crew is here for another night as well I think so why not.

They are going out every night and I’m giving it my all so I might as well take it while I get it because I don’t know how long it will be until I find a group as fun as them. It might be months. I hope not. I’ll chill out and rest when we all split up tomorrow night. I just finished my 4 mile run in 30 minutes. Not bad. I’m happy with it since my legs are still sore from that thruster workout in Tulum. I ended my run on the water two blocks from our hotel and turned towards the lake instead of heading to the hotel. I took my shoes off on the dock and jumped in the lake for a short swim to cool off and take in the smell and views of the water. The winds were light and the water was so calm and flat.I floated on my back for a bit and took a few deep breaths really enjoying being in the moment. I got back to the hotel and to my surprise Caroline was sitting on the chair outside covered in sweat too. She went out for a 5K. Good on her!. I gave Kimelen a call and we met up for breakfast while the other kids were still sleeping in a coma. I got to the breakfast spot a bit earlier than her and worked on the blog. Caroline showed up and got some breakfast as well and ordered some food for her dead friend back at the hotel. Yannick showed up as well and we just got our food in before we had to head back to the hotel to get picked up by the boat tour company for the tour!

We paid 300 pesos for a 2,5 hour boat tour. I haven’t taken a boat tour in my entire life since I grew up on boats with my dad fishing a lot and the prices people charge for the tours are ridiculous. But this was a sweet deal. $18 for a 2.5 hour ride in a pontoon boat with an hour of swimming in the lake. We all hopped in the boat, 4 others joined our group. The guide showed us two cenotes on the lake where meteors hit and the floor dropped from 6′ to 300′. I took a picture but I didn’t think you could see much with the sun right before the floor drops off. We got to swim in a spot next to the hole where there were hammocks posted up in the water so we swam over to the hammocks and were all playing for a bit. We had the girls stand on our shoulders and then I got on Yannicks. Yeah we don’t have great balance. We hopped back on the boat and headed to pirates cove. There was a pirate looking ship that sank in the shallow water and it looked like the Caribbean. The water was 1-2 meters and the sand was so white and the water was very blue. I took my camera out and we got some incredible shots of each other. I even got some of me thanks to Caroline!

After that we went back to the breakfast place for lunch, filled up our stomachs and after that we had the roughest part of the day. We had to go all the way back to the dock and tan for the next 6 hours! Haha. We Laid out our towels on the best part of the dock right on the edge and just laid there soaking in the sun for hours jumping in the water every 30 minutes. I took my drone up and got a good view of the lake from 1000′ up which was mind blowing. Wait till you guys see this! The girls showed up a bit after we did. They made their entrance by singing and dancing through the people laying on the dock behind us. They dropped their stuff, stripped down to their bathing suits, pulled out their speaker, put their phone in a waterproof bag as everyone was giving them funny looks and then just jumped right into the lake speaker in hand! They swam out to someone’s boat and claimed it. They listened to music there and probably talked shit about us all while they were out there! Hah. After we watched the sunset we all showered and met up for dinner back at the restaurant we went to the first night. La Playita

I got myself a seared tuna steak. Heaven. OMG. I also treated myself with a hell margarita, it was delicious. We stuffed our faces at dinner and Kimelen talked to our hotel owner about a place to go dancing. Shit. She’s a big dancer back in Argentina and said she’s taking us dancing. And by us she meant she was going to embarrass me dancing. I had to get a few drinks in me to loosen up and dance. Lucky me though we went out to the place he mentioned and it was closed. So we went for a walk back to Che Hostel where it was pretty quiet but not for long. You know why? Because the girls were with us. Within minutes they had their phone hooked up to the speakers and they were dancing on the bar pouring shots into everyone’s mouths. They got the whole place dancing and partying and having a great time. I couldn’t believe it. 5 minutes before this moment people were just hanging around standing and talking. Now the music was blasting with the girls on the bar and they had two bottles of booze in their hands which meant they were drinking for free. I danced a bit, took some pictures, had some shots poured in my mouth and down my shirt by the girls. You girls really gotta work on that aim!

After they had their fun there we started to walk back to the hotel to call it a night, it was 11:45. On the way back they found a bar that was packed. “Let’s grab a beer”

Yep. An hour later the street was loaded with people dancing. I mean like 100 people on a small street, cops came to try to get us out of it with no luck. People were dancing everywhere with some really good music. OH MY GOD, it was a good time. Everyone just let loose and was singing. IT’S A MONDAY NIGHT and this is what’s going down in Bacalar? JESUS

We called it a night at 2am. Well I did…..
