San Miguel De Allende for 2 days and then Guanajuato
It’s been a nice change of pace the last few days of not moving around which I don’t normally do. I got pretty comfortable in San Miguel the first night and booked a second right off the bat. The second day I was just moving at a leisurely pace around the whole city taking it all in and enjoying it all. Tried out a few places to eat, had a bunch of snacks and pastries, chocolate truffle delights, got a much needed massage, and ate more tacos. I went down to the park to do a big pull up and push up workout. The crossfit gym I went to on my first day in San Miguel completely destroyed my glutes and I felt like I nearly had to go to the hospital with how sore I was! I almost missed a sunset at the Rosewood which my buddy Mike told me about. I left my hostel and ran over there to get a drink at the rooftop bar and watch the sunset. Sitting at the bar I made a friend named Marion. Hi Marion!!! She’s on the email list too! She’s actually from New York City as well. We ended up hanging all night. It was nice to be social for a change. We hung out in the center for a few hours and watched the bands play for people and we even got our own personal show for a quick 200 pesos and that was the night!
Woke up the next morning and decided I’ll stay another day. Met up with Marion and we explored the whole city together which was nice! We ended up going to a Peruvian restaurant Mike recommended and it blew my mind. I never had peruvian food before in my life and it was one of my favorite meals I’ve ever had. I cannot wait to get to Peru to eat like that every single day. It consists of a lot of seafood with ceviche as well! After that we just hung out in the main center in front of the church watching the Mariachi bands play all night, saw an engagement and watched people party and have a good time. These guys know how to party! I also got to unload a few things out of my panniers and it cleared up a bit of space thanks to Marion bringing it back for me. I owe ya for that, thank you! I usually do about 2 shipments back home with things I realize I don’t need on the trip.
I got up pretty early today, packed up and had a short ride to Guanjuato which was about a 1:40 ride over the mountains. Lilly was there about two weeks ago and wrote me a nice email telling me where to go see things and where to eat along with what road to even take in there since she knows I like twisty scenic roads!
I didn’t realize as well the first two days there San Miguel is at 6200′ ASL. On this ride I went up a nice mountain which put me at nearly 8500′ and man was it cold and windy up there. Guanajuato is 6700′ and my watch is telling me I’m acclimated to 4700′ right now. It feels like I’ll never be able to escape the cold! It was 39 the last three nights in San Miguel and I was not expecting that. Anyway, I got to Guanajuato today and like Lilly promised it would be nicer than San Miguel which i didn’t think was positive. It’s funny how everyone knows about San Miguel but not many people talk about Guanajuato. I got checked into my hostel and went out to explore. went to a few spots Lilly mentioned, got some food she recommended, went to a mummy museum which there’s only one in the world which was pretty eerie and took a bunch of photos of the city. I’m really feeling the altitude here walking up steps and hills. I’m curious as to how my body will react when I’m at 15,000′ in South america. I hope I don’t get sick from it. Sleeping is definitely affected by the altitude I’m at. Well I’m hanging at the hostel right now typing this up catching you guys up on my last few days, i’m gonna go out and grab some food Lilly just recommended and go to bed. I’m gonna hang out in the town for a bit tomorrow and then take the long road to Valle De Bravo. I have a cool surprise for you all there!
