The beginning of a new adventure! I woke up ay 5am today with too much energy to lay in bed any longer. The day has finally come. I finished bringing the rest of my life into the basement and finally changed into my limited supply of clothing from my panniers before they got loaded up on the bike. I left New York at 6am today and headed southwest. It was a chilly windy day which I spent about 400 miles of it on the highway through 6 states. The goal today was to get to the Blue ridge parkway which is a beautiful twisty road through some mountains going from Virginia till North Carolina. Im riding to Tennessee to meet up with my friend Pawel I’ve known for about 10 years. He’s a motorcycle track racing coach so i thought it would be nice to have him make fun of my terrible riding for a few days before I head off on this trip and maybe he can even clean up my riding! Once I got off the highways the fun finally started on the BRP. I did about 150 miles of some of the most scenic mountain roads in America with some incredible colors of leaves with fall starting here. I managed to not even get a speeding ticket! Pawel actually called me up and was going to come meet me 150 miles into the start of the BRP, he said he booked an AirBnb Southwest of Roanoke,VA which we would stay at for the night and then tomorrow he would do the 6 hour ride with me on the BRP to his place in Laurel Bloomery, TN. Getting that phone call from him with his plans really cheered me up as I was having a rough start to the trip with all of the emotions this morning. We went out for a quick dinner, got back to the house he found and caught up after not seeing each other for 7 years. Pretty glad I didn’t have to camp the first night as my back is killing me from spending 11 hours on the bike for the first day. Heres some pics from the ride today. Pretty boring stuff so far but things will start to get fun as I leave the country I’m sure!
